Can any doctor administer an immigration physical?
Unlike a physical for school, sport, or for a job, an immigration physical must be administered by a USCIS Designated Civil Surgeon, as required by the U.S. Citizen and Immigration Service. A physical performed by another doctor will not be considered valid.
What can I expect during an immigration physical?
Our doctors have years of experience in this area and know how to administer a physical by following the guidelines as stated by the Centers for Disease Control, Department of Homeland Security, and U.S. Citizen and Immigration Services. Our doctor will record the results of your examination on Form I-693 which must be returned with the appropriate paperwork.
Some of the elements of an immigration physical include:
- Physical examination and evaluation
- Syphilis Test
- Mental evaluation
- Vaccination verification and additional immunization if needed
- Chest X-rays, if required
- Tuberculosis Blood Test
- Gonorrhea Test
- Flu Shot
Some tests may or may not be needed depending on the age of the patient and risk factors.
If you are receiving an immigration physical, please bring a valid, government-issued picture ID and all past medical records. If you have proof of treatment for previous infectious diseases, like TB, or any prior chest x-Rays, please bring those as well. Also, records must be translated into English to be accepted for review.
What is the cost of an immigration physical?
The cost for an immigration physical depends on the number of tests and additional vaccines you need to pass the examination. Our staff will review with you all the possible fees before we begin the examination.
What happens after the immigration physical?
After you have completed your physical, you will have to wait up to ten days for our providers to complete the paperwork. Some test results may take several days to complete, so a ten-day window allows us to make sure everything is finalized before we are ready to certify the physical. Our office will call you when your paperwork is complete. You are given a sealed envelope to hand over to the U.S. Citizen and Immigration Services and Department of Homeland Security with your other paperwork. DO NOT OPEN THIS ENVELOPE. A copy of all forms and test results will be given to you for your files.
