In-House Lab Services Q & A

Which In-House Lab Services Do I Need?

Laboratory services are important for providing details about how well your body is functioning and determining if you’re sick. Your doctor may request a blood draw or urinalysis, or gather cells or a tissue sample, depending on which type of lab work you need. First Care Medical Clinic proudly offers in-house high-chemistry laboratory services at each location. Some of the most commonly ordered lab services include:
  • Cytology
  • Pathology
  • Microbiology
  • Drug testing
  • Routine or special chemistry
  • Urinalysis
Some examples of tests your provider may order for you include, but are not limited to:
  • Basic and comprehensive metabolic panels
  • Lipid panel (cholesterol)
  • Liver function tests
  • Glucose tolerance testing
  • Hemoglobin A1C
  • Complete blood cell count (CBC)
First Care Medical Clinic also performs culture testing, like if you need a throat swab if your doctor suspects that you have strep throat.

How Do I Prepare for In-House Lab Services?

In some cases, you may need to do some preparation for your in-house lab service at First Care Medical Clinic. Certain lab services may require you to:
  • Fast for several hours or overnight
  • Stop taking your medications for a few days
  • Have a full bladder
Before your lab appointment at First Care Medical Clinic, your provider lets you know if any of these special preparations apply to you. If you don’t need to prepare, you can usually head over to the lab on the spot. Otherwise, you may have to come back another day for your lab work.

When Will I Get My Lab Results Back?

For some labs that check for illness, your doctor gets your results immediately. In this case, your doctor discusses your results with you right away and prescribes any necessary medication.

But usually, it may take a few days for the lab to process your specimen. Because First Care Medical Clinic offers on-site lab testing, you can usually get your results back within about a week. Once your lab results are ready, your provider calls you with any pertinent information or schedules you for a follow-up appointment to go over your results and discuss treatment solutions.

First Care Medical Clinic provides a variety of in-house lab services. Find out more information by scheduling an appointment online or over the phone with the location nearest you.
